December 11, 2007 Local Green Business Award Presented to Light & Motion
Light & Motion was the first business in Monterey County to receive this award in 2006, eight additional businesses have been awarded since. Some of them include the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary, Whole Foods Market, Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts at Asilomar and others. It is estimated that the Green Businesses certified in the Monterey Bay area have collectively conserved enough energy to power 290 homes, thus reducing 1,897,940 pounds of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gas emissions. Green Businesss have conserved 8,646,226 gallons of water, and have also diverted 73,596 pounds of solid waste per year from the landfill. Additionally, the vehicle service facilities certified as Green Businesses have collectively reduced hazardous material use by 9,750 pounds per year. The Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program certifies businesses that go above and beyond the normal regulatory environmental compliance requirements by preventing pollution and conserving natural resources. These businesses have voluntarily incorporated pollution and conserving natural resources. These businesses have voluntarily incorporated pollution prevention practices, implemented recycling and solid waste reduction programs, and installed water conserving and energy efficient alternatives in their operations. As a part of the program the businesses have undergone a series of rigorous audits performed by environmental and conservation experts to ensure that they meet the stringent program criteria.
