FAQs

I’m not getting full run times, what gives?
Try the following steps first—regardless of whether the light is new or a few years old. Any NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery left unused for a period of months will enter a state of deep discharge. In most cases 4-6 charge cycles will restore capacity. If you intend to cycle the battery indoors be sure to run a fan in front of the light head to prevent overheating. "Cycling" is defined as charging up your battery completely, and then running your light until the light head shuts off (full discharge). Then charge your battery again and repeat.. Our light heads are unique where they will shut off before draining the battery completely and sparing it from reaching a state of deep discharge (the only exception is the Solo light head which does not have a low battery warning).

Are your current batteries compatible with my old light head(s)?
Current replacement batteries are backward-compatible to product purchased after 2003. Systems purchased prior to 2003 require a cord update to be compatible with our current batteries. To verify compatibility examine your light connector. A connector with 3 pins is a current cord, while a connector with 2 pins will need to be updated. Contact your local authorized Light & Motion Dealer to return your light for an update.

How do I operate the power switch on my ARC Light Head?
To turn the light on, you must "double click" quickly. Once ignited, the led will illuminate and the light will come on slowly and get up to full power in about 15-20 seconds. Push again and the light will drop to the lower setting, push again and the light will be back to high, push and hold for (3 seconds) to turn off.

Why doesn’t my wireless computer or HRM work when my ARC HID light is on?
The ARC HID light produces a weak EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) that interferes with most wireless transmitters on cycle computers and heart rate monitors. You will need to either move the computer away from the light, approximately 12”, use a hard wired computer, or ride without your training device and just enjoy the night!

What if the led comes on but the light does not ignite?
Push and hold the button for 5 seconds, then wait for 20 seconds, and then restart by "double clicking" quickly (as noted above). If the problem persists, you may have a dead bulb, please contact your local Light & Motion Authorized dealer.

How long can I leave the battery on charge (when using the trickle charger) and not damage the battery?
Light & Motion recommends removing the battery from the trickle charger after a 14-hour period. If you happen to forget a few times and leave the battery on charge longer than the recommended period don't fret. If you consistently leave the battery on charge longer than recommended, you stand the chance of damaging your battery thus resulting in a loss of capacity.

How many charges can you get out of a battery before it needs replacing?
When using our Multi-Chem Charger expect to receive 500+ chargers on their battery. The Multi-Chem Charger employs a dT/dt method of charging. When using the trickle charger one can expect the battery to take upwards of 500 charges before loss of capacity.

Do I need to run the battery down all the way before I recharge it?
Light & Motion’s batteries can be charged at any state of discharge. There is no need to run them down everytime you use the battery.

How should I store my NiMH, or Li-ion Batteries?
You should always store your batteries in a fully charged state. Keep them in a cool dry place and every 3-4 month fully recharge them to maintain the best over-all life.
