Congrats to our winner for last month’s 30 Nights of Biking contest, Dennis Latta. He reminded us that sometimes the darkest rides aren’t even night rides:
My favorite night ride is my commute to work, and while I don’t daydream about it I do enjoy the views. I took this photo of the sunrise from the Golden Gate Bridge this morning.
Dennis score his choice of one of our commuter lights, the VIS 180 or VIS 360.
All month long, we’ve been asking for examples of your favorite night rides. Brendan Ryan let us know that for him, it’s all about his dark morning ride:
How about early morning? I have a 12 mile one way commute which includes 9.5 miles of river side trails. My Vega 200 shows me all of the skunk, possum, cats, etc, as I push through before they call it a night. The flashing mode makes the road portion safer. The commute is along the Guadalupe River Trail in San Jose.
Editor’s Note: As part of 30 Days of Biking, all through April we’ll be asking you to submit photos and explanations of your favorite night rides, where they are and why you love them. You’ll get the chance to be featured on the Lightlife blog and win your choice of one of our commuter lights — the VIS 180 or VIS 360. Want to enter? More info here!
Dark, early morning bike commutes are almost as good as night rides.
L&M fan Dennis Latta submitted this photo of his commute over the Golden Gate Bridge.

“My favorite night rides with my L&M set is late night summertime when the rest of the world seems asleep. The animals are awake and everywhere, the temps in NC have cooled from 90+ to fantastic and your adrenaline surges as you round a corner, smoking down the winding downhill on the “Peninsula” on Hawk Hollow trail , not really being able to “see” everything but not really caring and then flying out into the open beside the lake hearing your two dogs coming up behind you and plunging into the water! Another Awesome Night Ride!”
Thanks to Chris Sanders for letting us know what his favorite night ride is.
